One of the things that the ancient Romans did really well was building roads. More than two thousand years after they were built, many of them are still there and functioning as well as ever. Here you see the Claremont legion striding down the Via Sacra from the Palatine to the Forum, following in the footsteps of historic figures such as Tarquin the Proud, Cicero, Julius Caesar, Mark Anthony, Augustus Caesar, Caligula and Nero. The hard granite slabs are as hard and smooth as the day they were laid.
