READING THE RUINS

 Ostia

On Sunday we went to Ostia Antica, which was a ruined Roman city. It was the port of Rome until about the 5th century and had a population of about 50 000 people. A third of them were slaves.

Here we were given free time to visit all the different parts of the city and re-enact what would have gone on at each of the places.

These included an amphitheatre, a church and lots of houses. However we found out the best way to see them was by climbing on them and jumping from wall to wall. This was very fun until we were told climbing was not allowed.

We still had a great time and learnt a lot from the history!
